Chemical products in your home are deemed Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) once they are no longer in use or have past their expiration date. The potential for their ignitability and toxicity make them hazardous to us and those around us.

Household hazardous waste is not regulated by the Utah Department of Environmental Quality or the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It would be a logistical nightmare to try to regulate what people are putting into their trash cans. It would consume too much time and too many resources.

Proactive Approach

The Washington County Solid Waste District took a proactive approach in seeing that residents of Washington County had a method of properly disposing of their hazardous materials. WCSW held the 1st ever Household Hazardous Waste Collection day in Washington County on June 7th, 2008.

Types of Materials Accepted
