How Do I Become A Volunteer Firefighter?
Volunteer firefighting is a very rewarding and valuable way to serve your community. It takes dedication and many hours of training to become a firefighter. If you’re willing to put in the time and effort, Ivins Fire Department may be for you.
Make sure you’re ready to commit.
Making the decision to become a volunteer firefighter should not be taken lightly. It requires hundreds of hours of training and a strong commitment to service. Make sure you are able to dedicate your time to training and responding to calls. Volunteers spend anywhere from 2 to 6 hours per week volunteering. Members carry a pager and respond from home, from work, when allowed, and from other locations in the area.
Some of the following requirements to volunteer:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a valid Utah Driver’s License
- Be a US citizen or legal alien
- Pass a physical agility test
- Be an Ivins resident or live within our response area
- Complete a drug test, background check and interview with the hiring committee
Once you have completed an application and are accepted as a volunteer, you will be expected to attend training nights and become certified as classes become available. There are mandatory trainings all volunteers are expected to complete.
